OfficeCat ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect when you use officecat.co.uk (the "Site"), why we collect it, and your rights under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Who we are

The data controller for the Site is OfficeCat, contactable at [email protected].

2. What we collect

• Server logs — our hosting provider records the IP address, user-agent and pages requested for every visit, for security and reliability. These logs are kept for up to 30 days and are not used for behavioural tracking.
• Analytics (Google Analytics 4) — only if you accept the cookie banner. GA4 collects pages viewed, approximate location (country/region), device type, browser, and how you arrived at the Site. IP addresses are anonymised before being sent to Google. We do not collect names, addresses or payment details on this Site. If you choose "Essential only" in the banner, no analytics cookies are set and no analytics data is sent.
• Affiliate click data — when you click an outbound deal link, the retailer's affiliate network (e.g. Amazon Associates UK, Awin) may set a cookie on their own site that lets them attribute a sale to us. We do not see your purchase details — only an aggregated count of confirmed sales reported by the affiliate network.
• Communications — if you email us, we keep your message and email address solely to reply.

3. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies:

• Strictly necessary — to remember that you've dismissed the cookie banner (and your choice). Set without consent.
• Analytics (Google Analytics) — set by Google only after you accept the cookie banner. Used to understand which pages and deals are useful. We use GA4's "consent mode v2", so analytics storage is denied by default and only granted on your explicit acceptance.
• Affiliate tracking — set by retailer networks (Amazon Associates UK, Awin, etc.) when you click an outbound deal link, on the retailer's own site. These are governed by each network's own privacy policy.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing your site cookies (the banner will reappear) or by managing cookies through your browser settings.

4. Legal basis for processing

• Consent — for Google Analytics and any non-essential tracking. You give consent by clicking "Accept analytics" in the cookie banner; you can withdraw it by clearing your cookies.
• Legitimate interests — for keeping the Site secure and reliable (server logs), measuring affiliate clicks so we get paid for referrals we have made, and replying to your emails.

5. Sharing your data

We share data with:

• Google (as our analytics provider) — only if you've accepted the cookie banner. Google may transfer data outside the UK; transfers are safeguarded by Google's adoption of UK-approved data transfer mechanisms.
• Affiliate networks, when you click an outbound deal link.
• Our hosting provider, who may process server logs for security and reliability.

We do not sell your personal data.

6. How long we keep data

Server logs are kept for up to 30 days. Google Analytics retains user-level data for up to 14 months. Email correspondence is kept for 24 months unless you ask us to delete it sooner.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability. To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

8. International transfers

Some of our service providers may be based outside the UK. Where they are, we rely on UK-approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.

9. Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top whenever this policy changes.
